a-thousand-wordsHi, I'm Hannah.

I'm 25, English, and I love words.

Welcome to my tumblr.

an introduction

This blog is about words.
Expect to find beautiful quotes, introspective song lyrics, clever typography, picture quotes, and even the occasional cartoon that has made me nod in agreement, laugh or just think for a little while. A few carefully arranged words can say what 1,000 can't, and can connect people.

I started collect those quotes here so they wouldn't spam my original tumblr , or get lost in my likes, never to be seen again. Hopefully this way others will find and enjoy them too.

This is not a spoiler free blog. You'll find I am a fan of many things, and that filters through here.

(Please note most posts are queued. The twitter updates it's self.)

"The best moments in reading are when you come across something — a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things — that you'd thought special, particular to you. And here it is, set down by someone else, a person you've never met, maybe even someone long dead. And it's as if a hand has come out and taken yours." - Hector, The History Boys.

"I was so sentimental about you I’d break any one’s heart for you. My, I was a damned fool. I broke my own heart, too. It’s broken and gone. Everything I believe in and everything I cared about I left for you because you were so wonderful and you loved me so much that love was all that mattered. Love was the greatest thing, wasn’t it? "

i hate it when u stop being friends w someone or u break up w someone cos uve got all this information about them like at the back of ur mind like their birthday or their favorite game or whatever, and even years later things will come up and you’ll think about that person and its like. oh. and it never really Stops

Ever finished a book? I mean, truly finished one? Cover to cover. Closed the spine with that slow awakening that comes with reentering consciousness?

You take a breath, deep from the bottom of your lungs and sit there. Book in both hands, your head staring down at the cover, back page or wall in front of you.

You’re grateful, thoughtful, pensive. You feel like a piece of you was just gained and lost. You’ve just experienced something deep, something intimate… Full from the experience, the connection, the richness that comes after digesting another soul.

[…]

It’s no surprise that readers are better people. Having experienced someone else’s life through abstract eyes, they’ve learned what it’s like to leave their bodies and see the world through other frames of reference. They have access to hundreds of souls, and the collected wisdom of all them.

"

Beautiful read on why readers are, “scientifically,” the best people to date

Perhaps Kafka’s timeless contention that books are "the axe for the frozen sea inside us" applies equally to the frozen sea between us.

I Know Girls by Mary Lambert

"Please know there are much better things in life than being lonely or liked or bitter or mean or self-conscious.
We are all full of shit.
Go love someone just because, I know your heart may be badly bruised, or even the victim of numerous knifings, but it will always heal, even if you don’t want it to; it keeps going. There are the most fantastic, beautiful things and people out there, I promise.
It is up to you to find them. "

"I still remember the day you told me you were leaving
Our skin was still sticky from the summer air and your kisses were still on my hips
You told me it wasn’t me
You needed space
The problem is I already gave you my entire universe. "

"You think ‘Okay, I get it, I’m prepared for the worst’, but you hold out that small hope, see, and that’s what fucks you up. That’s what kills you. "

"I don’t know if anyone would ever deny being a feminist. It certainly is made into something of a caricature these days. I think it’s demonized for the sake of trivializing feminist beliefs. But I think being a feminist simply means you believe in equal rights, and I think if you ask anybody if they believe in equal rights, they’ll say yes, man or woman. And if they don’t — who the heck would say that? "
